Regional airline suggests Darling takes a leaf out of the Dutch government’s book and keep Britain on the move

Following the news from Holland that the Dutch government have decided to abolish its Air Passenger tax, Flybe, Europe’s biggest regional airline today written to Alastair Darling and called on him to postpone the proposed Air Passenger Duty (APD) planned for November 2009. Commenting on the call, Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer said:

 

“Flybe is not innocent enough to think that the UK government will follow the Dutch lead and abolish APD but we certainly think there is a case for them to put on ice the planned November rise in APD.  Such a move would be a tangible stimulus to the British economy and send out a very clear message that the government cares about industries other than just the banking sector”.
