Cathay Pacific Releases January Traffic Figures

Cathay Pacific Airways carried 903,706 passengers in January, a rise of 5.2% over the same month in 1999. Revenue Passenger Kilometres rose 2.3% with the strongest gains seen in North Asia with 8%, and South East Asia/Middle East with 6.3%.

The amount of freight carried by the airline rose 11.26% in January year on year, continuing the strong cargo growth seen over the past 12 months. Available Seat Kilometres and Available Cargo Kilometres were both lower than a year ago largely due to the disposal of a number of Boeing 747 “Classic” aircraft during 1999.

Cathay Pacific`s General Manager Network Revenue Ian Shiu said: “Market conditions in January remained favourable due to the continued economic recovery of the region. Our cargo operations continued to benefit from the strong demand for Asian exports.”
