Elsia Grandcourt, the Deputy CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, was given the honor to open the event at the Seychelles Tourism Academy where invited guests, including Alain St.Ange, the Tourism Board’s CEO, and Flavien Joubert, the Principal of the Academy, lecturers, professors, and students had all gathered to witness the unveiling of the premier screening of the Academy’s Advertising Film of the Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management Course.
Mrs. Grandcourt spoke about the milestone now reached by the Tourism Academy. She retraced the opportunities offered to Seychellois students wanting a career in the field of tourism. Mrs. Grandcourt emphasized the need for students to grab the opportunities being put forward by the Tourism Board and its Academy. “We are opening doors for you, and we invite you to join this industry that remains the pillar of our country’s economy,” Elsia Grandcourt said.
The film was well received by both students and the lecturers present. It showed the classrooms in session as it showed students on attachment in hotels and resorts both in Seychelles and in Mauritius. The film also shows in details the needed effort by each and every student who wants to make it to the Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management Course.
Alain St.Ange said, as he addressed the invited guests, lecturers, professors and students, that the government of Seychelles was today standing firmly behind its tourism industry and that there was no better time to join this growing industry that remains the pillar of the island’s economy. Mr. St.Ange reiterated that Seychelles was lucky to have three national languages because of its historical past and that students needed to grab that advantage, as the command of languages remained positive assets for the industry. Mr St.Ange also explained the development of the Seychelles brand of tourism and said that the tourism industry was more than just hotels, and the selling of it was more than just sun, sea, and sand.
The CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board touched on the desire of the country to break into the world of events and he cited the island’s Carnaval International de Victoria; the Miss Seychelles, another world contest; and SUBIOS, the Seychelles Festival of the Sea that had joined the Creole Festival in the now growing list of national events where our visitors join in the festivities and meet us to develop the ties of friendship that remains the important to the Seychelles brand of tourism where we advocate personalized tourism as one of our unique selling points.
“Tourism is a people’s industry, and for it to work we need to ensure that us, the Seychellois are able to have opportunities to interact with our visitors. What better way to do that than in festivities?” Mr. St.Ange said.
Flavien Joubert, the Principle of the Academy presented a copy of the new film to the CEO&Deputy CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board and a Certificate of Appreciation to Mervin Marie of Freelens Production who had produced the film on behalf of the Seychelles Tourism Academy.
