Cathay Pacific Adds More Dining Variety To Prize-Winning Lounges

Cathay Pacific Airways today announced new menu items for its award winning First and Business Class lounges at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) - The Wing and The Pier. Over 30 different items have been added to the menu. The current menu features new breakfast items including speciality breads, new noodle dishes, cold cuts, cheeses, and Dim Sum. The lunch and dinner menus now feature more Chinese barbecue items, rice and noodle dishes, as well as traditional carvery roasts, skewers and brochettes, salads, cheeses and fresh deserts.
At teatime passengers can enjoy everything from whole wheat croissants, to scones and muffins with clotted cream and jam. And throughout the day there are various new varieties of sandwiches, Chinese pastries, sushi & salads, Japanese noodles, hot snacks, and Danish pastries always on offer.
The Noodle Bars in both The Wing and The Pier have become icons for Cathay Pacific and their output continues to soar. Although sadly nobody has kept an exact count on the total number of noodles served in the 3 years since the outlets first opened, the millionth bowl of noodles will probably be served very soon! On one busy day in April nearly 1,447 bowls were served - on average one for every second lounge guest.
Cathay Pacific first lounge at HKIA - The Wing - was this month named The World`s Best Airline Lounge 2002. The Skytrax survey attracted a total of 711,245 votes from passengers all over the world. The high quality food and beverage was an important contributing factor in winning this prestigious award.
Cathay Pacific Airways Manager Product Sarah Blomfield said: “We`re delighted to know that The Wing is held in such high regard by so many of our passengers around the world. And we`re sure they`ll be happy to find that a good menu just got better!”
Skytrax Chief Executive Edward Plaisted explained The Wing`s success: “This Cathay Pacific lounge provides a well planned range of product facilities, and tends to be the trend-setter within the industry for latest technological and comfort innovations.”
The Wing was also recently named first in a Forbes magazine list of The World`s Ten Best Airport Lounges. Late last year Cathay Pacific was the first airline to open a second lounge at HKIA - The Pier. It has also recently opened new lounges in Seoul, Bangkok and Taipei with a programme to enhance facilities throughout the region.
