BTN: Sanya, and Hainan more generally, are a rapidly growing tourism destination in China. What benefits does the property gain from its location in this exciting region?

RF: As the only available tropical island in China, it is a good choice for people who live in the temperate zone to escape from winter.

Compared with other destinations, Sanya is more convenient for people who come from China mainland to spend a holiday.

The short distance, simple procedures help, while most of the larger cities have the direct flights here.

Because of such location advantages, our property attracts many guests from mainland.

BTN: Is it mainly Chinses guests you are welcoming, or do you see visitors from further afield, across Asia?

RF: Kempinski is a historical European hotel brand.

We are welcoming guests from the entire world.

Actually we have a lot of guests from different countries such as Korea, Russia, and Singapore and so on.

BTN: Are there any investments planned for the property to ensure you maintain your position at the head of a competitive field?

RF: As the only resort in Sanya equipped with a helipad, we had a good chance to launch the helicopter program in Sanya.

Now guests may choose the following exclusive experiences through the hotel: Heli Tour of Haitang Bay, Round Trip Journey to Wuzhizhou Island, and Heli Wedding Service for couples to make a grand entrance to the ceremony at AURA.

Kempinski Haitang Bay Sanya has recently been nominated at the World Travel Awards, and is in the running for the title of China’s Leading Beach Resort. How does it feel to have been recognised in this way?

RF: It’s really our honour to be nominated and grateful that we are approved as China’s Leading Beach Resort.
