Drive fore the cure Golf Classic hosted by Four Seasons Washington

Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC hosted its 12th Annual Drive Fore the Cure golf classic at Bretton Woods Golf Club, raising USD 103,000 to benefit the Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Every year the entire Four Seasons Hotel Washington staff comes together to put on this event to raise money and awareness for cancer research. “We are proud to have been supporting the Cancer Institute for a decade by raising more than USD 700,000 thus far and look forward to raising even more in the next decade,” states Christian Clerc, regional vice president and general manager.

115 golfers were welcomed with goody bags and “orange crush” cocktails sponsored by American Harvest Spirits, followed by a cookout lunch at 11:00 am and shotgun at 12:30 pm. During the tournament, a specialty Patron golf cart made its way throughout the course for participants to enjoy. A dinner buffet and awards ceremony preceded the end of the tournament.

New to this year’s classic was the introduction of a “Celebrity Challenge” and the “Pro Shot.” The Celebrity Challenge featured Christian Clerc of Four Seasons Hotel Washington as the celebrity to beat. Golfers were able to bet that their shot would surpass his and win a gift card of their choice if successful. The Pro Shot gave participants the opportunity to utilize a professional golfer in place of one shot. As tradition has it there was a silent auction portion displaying more 90 unique items, and a putting competition. The winning foursome was awarded four round-trip tickets on American Airlines with a two-night stay and a round of golf at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, Mexico.

This annual event is very near and dear to the hearts of all Four Seasons Hotel employees as the District of Columbia has the highest rate of cancer per capita in the United States. The goal this year was to raise USD 100,000 for the MedStar Washington Hospital Center Cancer Institute and that goal was surpassed by raising more than USD 103,000 – a record high for Drive Fore the Cure. Four Seasons owes the success of this year’s tournament to all of the generous donors who made it possible for MedStar Washington Hospital Center to continue serving their community and furthering research to find a cure for cancer. Fans can follow all the action on the event’s Facebook page.

Four Seasons Hotel Washington also hosts the Andrea Kauffman Sprint Four the Cure, with the 32nd annual event taking place this year on September 15, 2012.
