Virgin Trains, a fantastic deal for a fantastic cause

The offer also includes free First Class travel with Virgin Trains to and from Crewe Station, where your journey begins.

The steam-hauled Train of Hope runs on Saturday 1 October 2011 from Crewe to Carlisle over the Cumbrian fells and returns on the scenic Settle and Carlisle line. Customers will be accommodated in luxurious first class coaches and invited to indulge in a full English breakfast and a five course dinner, including complimentary wines and refreshments. The train will be waved off at Crewe by a brass band and pop impresario and railway enthusiast Pete Waterman and met in Carlisle by a piper and the Mayor and Mayoress of Carlisle. All funds raised by the tour will go to CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people.

The Train of Hope idea belongs to a team of Manchester-based Virgin Trains’ drivers who were looking to do something that combined a passion for the railways with a desire to make a difference for a very worthwhile cause.

Already, the Train of Hope has raised thousands of pounds for CLIC Sargent – most recent is the Train of Hope raffle which was drawn by ex-Apprentice Claire Young on Saturday and raised an amazing £7,624.

A selection of top quality prizes will also be raffled on the train exclusively for Train of Hope customers. These include: two premier dining tickets with the Rail Touring Company,
Balloon flights for two and Limited edition prints. Another very special item available exclusively to the appeal is a commissioned painting by John Colwey, a member of the Guild of Railway Artists.
