Snow strands thousands at Narita Airport

Narita Airport in Tokyo saw thousands of passengers stranded in terminals last night after snow caused flight cancellations.

Some 71 flights were cancelled after eight centimetres of snow fell on the airport.

Airport officials distributed sleeping bags, water and crackers to 3,400 stranded travellers.

Both runways at Narita were closed.

Services are now returning to normal, with only minor disruption reported on Tuesday.
