Passengers travelling from platforms 13 and 14 at Clapham station will benefit from a new waiting room and retail outlet from Tuesday 15 July.
The new facilities are part of a £950,000 scheme in the National Stations Improvement Programme (NSIP) which also includes new canopies and display screens.
The waiting room benefits from heating and air conditioning, customer information screens and additional seating. The new structure takes the place of a staff room previously used by Southern employees and a store room for retail tenants.
The South West Trains- Network Rail Alliance who manage the station and Southern who run services from the platforms, have worked together to introduce the new facilities to customers.
Phil Dominey, Stakeholder Manager from the South West Trains – Network Rail Alliance officially opened the new waiting room today (Tuesday Wednesday 16th July) along with Tom Cope, Southern Customer Experience Manager.
Phil Dominey said, “We are delighted, that working with Southern, we have been able to open this fantastic new facility, at Clapham Junction, Britain’s busiest railway station today.”
Tom Cope, Southern Customer Experience Manager, said: “This facility will make a tremendous difference to our passengers and is already proving popular with both commuters and leisure travellers.”
Staff handed celebratory cupcakes to passengers waiting for trains on platforms 13 and 14 during the morning.
Inside the waiting room is a new retail outlet, Cafe Ritazza which will be open from 0630hrs until 2000hrs daily.
