Marriott International Names William W. Mccarten President, Marriott Services Group

Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) announced today that William W. McCarten has been named president of Marriott`s Services Group.

Mr. McCarten returns to Marriott after a highly successful career with HMSHost, formerly Host Marriott Services Corporation. Serving as chief executive officer and most recently as chairman of HMSHost, he led the company through its spin-off from Host Marriott Corporation in 1995 and its dramatic industry transformation, culminating in the merger with Autogrill S.p.A. in 1999. In recognition of the changes made in the airport concessions market, Mr. McCarten received two national awards in 1999: the Multi-Unit Food Service Operations (MUFSO) Golden Chain Award and Nation`s Restaurant News Operator of the Year.

In his new position, Mr. McCarten will oversee Marriott Distribution Services and Marriott Senior Living Services.

During his previous 14-year tenure with Marriott, Mr. McCarten served in a number of key roles including president of Host International; senior vice president, finance and corporate controller; and vice president of finance for the Services Group.

Mr. McCarten holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Virginia. He is a past chairman of the Advisory Board for the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. He is a certified public accountant and member of AICPA. He is also a member of the Greater Washington Board of Trade and the Montgomery County CEO Roundtable.
