America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA) today
announced the election of John L. Ryan as vice president, line maintenance.
Ryan joins the technical operations division of America West and will oversee
all aspects of line maintenance for America West`s fleet of 142 aircraft
providing strategic direction for optimizing the fleet operational performance
and regulatory compliance.

“We`re pleased to welcome John to our operations team,” said Hal Heule,
senior vice president, technical operations.  “An in-depth program launched
last year has yielded substantial operational improvements and John will help
us build on that momentum as we continue to strengthen our performance.”
 
Ryan joins America West from Hawaiian Airlines where he served as vice
president of maintenance and engineering.  Prior to Hawaiian, Ryan was
director of maintenance at Reno Air and before that spent 37 years at United
Airlines in various maintenance management positions.  Ryan earned an
associates` degree in business and aviation engineering from Parks College in
St. Louis.
