Air Canada and CUPE Reach Agreement on Voluntary Workshare Program

Air Canada today said that it had reached an
agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) on a voluntary
Workshare Program.
The Agreement reduces scheduled hours of work for flight attendants
participating in the program by 40 percent for a 26 week period effective
immediately. According to the terms of the agreement, Human Resources
Development Canada (HRDC) provides partial compensation of the reduced hours
through the Employment Insurance (EI) Workshare Program. Over 300 flight
attendants have signed up for the voluntary workshare program with the net
effect of mitigating 129 jobs.

Air Canada is in continuing discussions with its unions on various
programs to mitigate some of the 9,000 jobs to be eliminated in the aftermath
of September 11.
