GNER launches free WiFi

EAST Coast train operator GNER is inviting passengers to sample its wireless internet service free of charge this summer.

The rail firm is also planning a free-to-enter prize draw with an exciting first
prize to encourage travellers to stay online, on the move on its trains.

GNER is speeding up the rollout of WiFi to all 41 of its electric and diesel trains linking London King’s Cross with the East Midlands, Yorkshire, North East England and Scotland - with the entire GNER fleet WiFi ready by August, nine months ahead of schedule.

To introduce travellers to the new technology, from Monday 5th June to Monday 31st July, GNER is giving Standard Class passengers the chance to trial the benefits of WiFi on the move, with a one-off unlimited 24-hour session worth £9.95 entirely free of charge. WiFi access is complimentary in First Class accommodation.

To access the free trial offer on board GNER’s WiFi equipped trains, users can
simply launch their web browser which will automatically detect the GNER landing page. From there, click on the ‘gotrywifi’ promotion link and type in ‘gotrywifi’ to get online.

GNER is also celebrating the arrival of WiFi on all of its trains by offering
passengers a chance to win £1,000 worth of PCWorld vouchers in a prize draw,
which the winner could use to buy a brand-new WiFi enabled laptop - or maybe splash out on the latest computer accessories.

GNER spokesman John Gelson said: “WiFi has enormous potential for both business and leisure passengers to make the most of their journey with GNER. WiFi creates a truly mobile office for the business user, while leisure users can keep up to date with news and sport, including of course the World Cup - or maybe order shopping or book a weekend break.

“The growing number of passengers already discovering WiFi tell us it’s transforming their journey experience with us. We hope the free trial will encourage more people to join them and enjoy WiFi with GNER”.
