Air Niugini takes on new CEO

The Air Niugini Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Wasantha Kumarasiri, as the airline’s new Chief Executive Officer, National Broadcasting Corporation reports. The airline received 74 applications for the job.

Mr Kumarasiri joined Air Niugini in May 2004, before being appointed General Manager Finance and Administration, in August last year.

He was later appointed acting chief executive officer from January this year, until his recent appointment. Prior to joining Air Niugini, Mr Kumarasiri has worked for various companies in PNG since 1994.

He holds a degree in Commerce from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura in Sri Lanka, and also studied at the University of Sydney, Australia.

He is a member of C.P.A Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and the Papua New Guinea Institute of Directors.

The airline’s board has expressed confidence that Mr Kumarasiri will continue to lead Air Niugini towards being considered one of the region’s premier carriers.
