Sabre launches car hire feature

Sabre Travel Network has launched the first non-airport, location-based car hire search feature in any GDS.
Offered to Sabre Connected travel agencies free of charge, this GeoShopping feature lets staff search for, and book with, non-airport car hire locations.

Agents can use specific geographic search points including city, region, postcode, address, point of interest, major railway station and hotel.

A travel agent wanting to book a car for a customer staying in a specific hotel is now able to enter the hotel property number or the segment number in an open passenger name record (PNR).

The resulting display shows available car hire outlets and their addresses, car types, rates, the approximate total hire price, and the distance and direction from the search point.

The system works in the same way when using other geographic search points.

Hertz is Sabre Travel Network’s launch partner for this feature.

“GeoShopping complements our convenient off-airport car rental location offerings for our customers,” said Brian Kennedy, Hertz’s executive vice president of marketing and sales. “We look forward to continuing our enhanced partnership with Sabre and providing travel agents and their clients with the customer service and affordability benefits offered by GeoShopping.”

Hamish Broom, Sabre Travel Network’s European director for airline, car and hotel distribution, said: “It is amazing to see the price differences between car hire outlets that are only a short distance away from each other. This enhances the efficient marketplace provided by the Sabre GDS for car rental companies, agents and travellers, by providing a variety of booking options quickly and easily.”
