Costa Atlantica hosts the official opening of Harwich’s new boarding bridge

Costa Atlantica hosted local dignitaries at an on-board reception to mark the official opening of Harwich International Port’s new state-of-the-art gangway, on 8th September.

The leader of Essex County Council, Lord Hanningfield, declared the boarding bridge officially open, in a move seen to encourage promotion and development of the UK cruise industry.

The air-conditioned and flexible gangway, capable of elevating up to 10 metres and with a range along the quay of 25 metres, was built by TEAM of Barcelona and represents a multi-million pound investment in cruising.

MD of Costa Cruises, Marco Rosa, comments: “As Europe’s leading cruise line, Costa Cruises is thrilled to see the UK making this level of investment into the industry. The gangway will be a great introduction to the UK for our international passengers, for whom Harwich is the gateway to London and the South of England.”

The 960ft long, 85,619ton Costa Atlantica’s call into Harwich is part of a ten-night cruise from Copenhagen taking in England, France (Le Havre), Spain (Vigo, Cadiz and Malaga), Portugal (Lisbon) and Italy (Savona).
