Sol Meliá Chosen As “Best European Hotel Chain”

The prestigious British “Travel Weekly” magazine has chosen Sol Meliá as the “Best European Hotel Chain” ahead of other major international hotel groups including Hilton, Sheraton and Holiday Inn. The award was presented at a ceremony held in London and attended by many of the leading figures in British tourism.

The decision on the award came after counting up the votes made by the major travel agencies and tour operators all over Britain, and is seen as recognition for the efforts made by Sol Meliá to improve the quality of the products and services the company provides. The award also confirms the close relationship that exists between Sol Meliá and the British market, a market which generates over 15% of the hotel chain’s business world-wide.

Last year the Chairman of Sol Meliá, Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, was named as a member of the exclusive “Hall of Fame” of the British Travel Industry in recognition of his long and successful career in the international tourism industry.

The award of “Best European Hotel Chain” also coincides with the closing stages of the ambitious renovation and refurbishment carried out at the company’s Meliá White House hotel in London, a project which it is hoped will assist in strengthening the image of the company and its products amongst the British public.

Sol Meliá is the leading hotel company in Spain, Latin America and the Caribbean, the third largest hotel company in Europe and number ten in the world ranking. The company provides more than 350 hotels in 30 countries under its Meliá Hotels, TRYP Hotels, Sol Hotels and Paradisus Resorts brands, of which 267 are located in Europe and the Mediterranean.
