Low Fares back UK airport review

John Hanlon of the ELFAA has stated: “The European Low Fares Airline Association welcomes the Office of Fair Trading’s announcement that it is
considering a review of the UK airports’ market.

BAA’s dominance in the UK airport market results in higher fares for the
consumer as a consequence of its position on power. We welcome any
enquiry that seeks to redress the balance for the consumer and
encourages healthy competition amongst airlines.

BAA has been operating in a near-monopoly environment for too long, and
now handles 63% of the UK’s passengers at its airports.  We hope the OFT
decides to carry out the enquiry this summer and hope to see a more open
airport marketplace in the near future.”
