Traffic result of Austrian Airlines for July - Showing significant growth

Austrian Airlines carried 1.1 million passengers in July 2010. This means Austrian Airlines carried a total of 13.7 percent more passengers in July 2010 than in July 2009. The load factor rose by 3.6 percentage points to 82.7 percent. We increased capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASK) by 2.8 percent. Demand measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK) rose by 7.4 percent. The members of the Austrian Airlines Executive Board, Peter Malanik and Andreas Bierwirth, said the following: “Our new market strategy is beginning to take effect. The trend of recent months is continuing. Although we are clearly improving our performance compared to last year, margins remain under pressure.”

In the period from January to July 2010, the number of passengers carried, at around 6.1 million, was 9.7 percent above the previous year’s figure. The load factor rose by 3.7 percentage points to 75.6 percent. We reduced our ASK by 0.4 percent. RPK rose by 4.7 percent.

Europe
In July, around 842,400 passengers flew with Austrian Airlines within Europe. This means 23.3 percent more passengers flew with us compared to the same month last year. The load factor rose by 7.2 percentage points to 79.1 percent. The figure for ASK rose by 12.2 percent. RPK rose by 23.5 percent.

In the period from January to July 2010, we carried around 4.8 million passengers in Europe. This means we are 15.3 percent up on the previous year. The load factor rose by 2.9 percentage points to 69.3 percent. The figure for ASK rose by 9.4 percent, and that for RPK by 14.2 percent.

Intercontinental
The number of passengers carried in the Intercontinental segment rose by 8.4 percent in July, to 169,800. We rose our ASK slightly by 2.8 percent, and improved the load factor by 2.4 percentage points to 85.1 percent. RPK rose by 5.8 percent.

In the period from January to July 2010, we carried 955,000 passengers, the equivalent of an increase of 6.1 percent on the same period last year. The load factor improved by 6.5 percentage points to 81.0 percent. We reduced our ASK by 3.2 percent. RPK rose by 5.1 percent.

Charter
With it´s new market strategy Austrian Airlines uses more of the available capacity for scheduled business. This is leading to a reduction in charter business in 2010. We carried 131,300 passengers in the Charter segment in July, 20.8 percent fewer than in the comparison month last year. The load factor fell by 0.5 percentage points to 86.2 percent. We reduced our ASK by 21.6 percent. The figure for RPK fell by 22 percent.

In the period from January to July 2010, we carried 413,200 passengers in the Charter segment. This figure is 25.6 percent lower than last year. The load factor fell by 2.9 percentage points to 77.2 percent. We reduced our ASK by 24.8 percent. The figure for RPK fell by 27.6 percent.
