St Petersburg hosts Confederations Cup final as Germany triumph

World champions Germany have taken a first Confederations Cup title after victory against Chile in St Petersburg.

The Europeans beat Copa America winners Chile 1-0, with Lars Stindl hitting the first-half winner following a mistake by Marcelo Diaz.

Arturo Vidal and Angelo Sagal of Chile both came closing, firing over the bar in the closing stages.

The final marks a successful conclusion to the Confederations Cup in Russia, with the event being seen as a test run for the FIFA World Cup next year.

St Petersburg – which will welcome the World Travel Awards Europe Gala Ceremony in September – welcomed thousands of guests for the final on Sunday.

Fan passes were issued to travelling fans in place of visas, making the city more accessible, while volunteers welcomed sports fans from around the world.
