Network Rail engineers will replace part of the track to make journeys more reliable on the route between York, Church Fenton and Leeds.

During 10/11 and 17/18 January only limited trains will be able to run between Leeds and York. Many trains will be replaced by coaches.

Phil Verster, Route Managing Director for Network Rail, said: “The railway network is in the midst of the biggest sustained investment programme in its history aimed at improving better services and facilities for its millions of daily passengers. This investment is essential to make sure we can provide reliable services for passengers on the line between Leeds and York.

“I ask that passengers plan their journey carefully. We have worked closely with our colleagues in the train operating companies to make sure passengers who need to travel can reach their destination and will be properly cared for at our stations.

“While we try our utmost to minimise disruption sometimes it is unavoidable. The work has been planned for the weekends as the number of passengers travelling is fewer. Using coaches is always a last resort. I apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.”

Coach journeys will take longer than the regular train services.

Northern Rail road replacement will operate between Church Fenton and York. Cross Country and First Trans Pennine Express will provide coaches between Leeds and York.
