Southwest Airlines Reports June Traffic Up 16.2 Percent

Southwest Airlines Co. announced today that the Company flew 3.8 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in June 2000, a 16.2 percent increase from the 3.3 billion RPMs flown in June 1999. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 13.0 percent to 4.9 billion from the June 1999 level of 4.3 billion. The load factor for the month was 77.1 percent, up 2.1 points from June 1999.

For the second quarter 2000, Southwest flew 11.0 billion RPMs, compared to the 9.5 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 1999, an increase of 15.7 percent. Available seat miles increased 13.9 percent to 14.7 billion from the second quarter 1999 level of 12.9 billion. The second quarter 2000 load factor was 74.3 percent, up 1.2 points from the same period last year.


For the first half of 2000, Southwest flew 20.4 billion RPMs, compared with the 17.5 billion RPMs recorded for the same period in 1999, an increase of 16.5 percent. Available seat miles increased 14.0 percent to 28.9 billion from the 1999 level of 25.3 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 70.6 percent, up 1.5 points from the same period last year.
