France became the latest country served by Eastern Airways as part of its expansion into Europe with a new service departing from Southampton International Airport to Angers Loire.

The UK regional airline launched a three times a week service yesterday (15 November), which will benefit holidaymakers with homes in the Loire Valley, expatriates visiting the UK and businesses with links in both regions.

Flights depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays leaving Southampton at 1105, arriving at Angers Loire at 1320 local time.  Flights from Angers Loire take off at 1345, landing in Southampton at 1405 local time.

“This is a major milestone in Eastern Airways’ history,” said Chris Holliday, Eastern Airways’ chief operating officer.  “We introduced our first international route in 2005 from Southampton to Brussels and this launch is our first French connection, also from the south coast of England.

“Angers is in the heart of the Loire Valley, and this service will not only appeal to holidaymakers, but also those travelling on business as the region is renowned for its wine production, truck manufacturing, liqueur, tourism and technology industries.”

The city of Angers is the capital of the Anjou province and the gateway to the Loire Valley.  It is France’s third largest wine producing region and is also steeped in history with its wide variety of stunning chateaux.  Other tourist attractions include the Contreau distillery, art and tapestry museums and the nearby world famous 24 hour Le Mans motor racing circuit.   

The airline is one of the UK’s most punctual carriers* and celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.  As Eastern Airways focuses on customer requirements with a Business Express rapid security channel at Southampton, passengers need only 30 minutes to check-in prior to boarding.

From Southampton Eastern Airways also flies to Brussels, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Leeds Bradford and Inverness.
