Consortium wants Treasury’s Alitalia stake

A consortium of investors represented by lawyer Antonio Baldassarre is interested in buying the whole 49.9 pct stake in Alitalia SpA held by the Italian economy and finance ministry, the daily Corriere della Sera said without citing sources.
According to the paper, Baldassarre said the consortium has the financial means to launch a subsequent takeover bid on the whole capital of Alitalia if called upon to do so.

In an interview with the daily Milano Finanza, Baldassarre simply said the consortium aims ‘to take control of the company’.

Baldassarre said the consortium is open to possible alliances with other groups.

The consortium is expected to meet today to discuss its plans for Alitalia.
