Earthquake shakes south of UK
Residents in the English county of West Sussex have seen local buildings shake following an earthquake under the British Channel. Officials at the British Geological Survey recorded the 3.9 magnitude quake at 08:00 this morning, with an epicentre south of Portsmouth.

Cities across India are on high alert following a series of explosions in Mumbai. As many as 18 people are feared dead following three co-ordinated explosions in the commercial hub of the city late yesterday, with dozens feared injured.
Brazil plane crash kills 16
An aircraft operated by Noar Linhas Aereas has crashed outside the Brazilian city of Recife with the loss of 16 lives. Bound for Natal, the capital and main city of Rio Grande do Norte in north-eastern Brazil, the plane came down within ten minutes of take off.

Three simultaneous explosions have rocked Mumbai nearly three years after militants killed over 164 people in an assault on the Indian city. The financial heart of the city was attacked during rush-hour, with eight people feared dead and over one hundred injured.

A British holidaymaker has been killed in Greece, according to local police. A further four British visitors were injured, one seriously, following the incident in the early hours of this morning.
Nine dead, scores missing following Volga sinking
As least nine holidaymakers are known to have died, with scores missing, following the sinking of a cruise ship on the Volga River in Russia. The overloaded vessel - which was licensed to carry no more than 120 passengers – went down with as many as 206 people on board.
United Nations offers support following Congo plane crash
Officials at the United Nations Mission for Stabilisation of Congo (MONUSCO) have expressed support for the people of the country following a fatal plane crash on Friday. A Boeing 727 operated by Congo-based Hewa Bora Airways crashed just hundreds of feet short of Kisangani Airport in the north east of the central African country.
New Zealand earthquake survivors see luggage returned, bills delivered
Hotel guests forced to evacuate rooms during an earthquake in the city of Christchurch in New Zealand earlier this year have seen their luggage returned to them. However, some have not been lucky, with bills from the hotels dropping through the letterbox.
Hundreds dead in Red Sea disaster
As many as 200 people are feared drowned in the Red Sea following the sinking of a boat carrying migrant workers to Saudi Arabia. Sudanese media reports the vessel went down off the coast, with only three survivors pulled from the water.

Russian plane crash kills 44
A Tupolev 134 has crashed in Russia with the loss of 44 lives. A further eight people are in a “critical condition” in hospital following the accident, which occurred one kilometre outside of Petrozavodsk Airport in the republic of Karelia.
Christchurch hit by further aftershocks
Residents of Christchurch, New Zealand, are anxiously awaiting further developments after the city was hit by series of aftershocks. Rebuilding has only just begun in the area following a 6.3-magnitude quake in February this year.
