British travellers warned over delays as Hurricane Irene clean up begins
British travellers in the United States have been warned by the Foreign & Commonwealth office to expect delays as the county continues to battle the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. The storm made landfall over the weekend, with two states earlier declared disaster areas by president Barack Obama.
United States transport disrupted following East Coast earthquake
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake has rocked the East coast of the United States, with transport connections across the region disrupted. The epicentre of the quake was registered was just a few miles from the two-reactor North Anna nuclear power plant in Mineral, Virginia, 80 miles south-west of Washington.
First Air crash claims 12 lives in Canada
Investigators in Canada were today working to establish what caused First Air charter flight 6560 to crash on Saturday with the loss of 12 lives. All four crew members and eight passengers were killed when the Boeing 737-200 came down on Saturday, with three more people left in hospital, including a seven-year-old girl.

French film star Gerard Depardieu has apologised after apparently urinating on the floor of a CityJet flight bound for London. Known as much for his outrageous antics as for his acting, the French actor had apparently been caught short before deciding to relieve himself into a bottle during taxing on the runway in Paris.
British man killed in honeymoon shark attack in Seychelles
A British man has died after being attacked by a shark in the Seychelles, the second such attack in a month. The attack occurred off Anse Lazio beach on Praslin where the victim had been snorkelling during the second week of his honeymoon.

A British tourist has been mauled to death in the north of Norway while travelling with the British Schools Exploring Society. The attack – which happened at Von Postbreen, approximately 40 kilometres from Longyearbyen – saw four other travellers injured earlier today.

British man killed while holidaying in Venezuela
A British holidaymaker has been shot and killed on the Venezuelan island of Margarita. The brother the deceased – named by the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office as 28 year-old Thomas Ossel from Bedfordshire - was also shot and injured during the incident.
Two Delta Air Lines aircraft collide in Boston
Two aircraft operated by Delta Air Lines have collided on the runway at Logan International Airport in Boston. Minor damage was caused to both planes, with one minor injury reported following the incident late in Thursday.
