Foreign Office warns against Thai travel as situation deteriorates
Officials at the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office have begun to warn against “all but essential” travel to the Thai capital of Bangkok as flooding worsens. A further 26 provinces in Thailand are also affected by flooding, with hundreds of deaths and billions of dollars worth of damage reported across the country.
Further blow to Kenyan tourism following grenade attack
Things have gone from bad to worse for tourism in Kenya, with a grenade attack in the capital Nairobi injuring 12 people. The latest outrage comes after the kidnap of several western tourists on the border with Somalia.
Four survive Papua New Guinea plane crash
Four people – believed to be the two pilots and two passengers – have survived a plane crash which claimed the lives of 28 people in Papua New Guinea. The pilots are from Australian and New Zealand, the Australian embassy confirmed.
British tourist killed in New York helicopter crash
A British holidaymaker has been killed in New York following a helicopter crash on the East River. The 40-year-old victim, her husband and daughter, all British citizens, and the daughter’s Australian friend had all been on board when the privately owned Bell 206 came down near 34th Street in midtown Manhattan.
Two killed in cruise ship fire in Norway
Two passengers have been killed following a blaze on board MS Nordlys in Norway. Some 262 people are believed to have been on board the Hurtigruten ASA operated vessel when it caught fire off the coast of the country earlier, with at least nine further people injured.

Officials in Kenya have drafted extra police and soldiers into the area where a British holidaymaker was shot and killed and his wife kidnapped. David and Judith Tebbutt were staying at the luxury Kiwayu Safari Village when the incident occurred on September 10th.
Russia to act on unsafe airlines
Russian authorities are to ground unsafe airlines as the country mourns the latest in a series of deadly accidents. Following the deaths of 43 people from the Lokomotiv ice hockey squad in an air disaster earlier this week, president Dmitry Medvedev ordered officials to “discontinue the operations of air carriers incapable of ensuring flight safety”.
Hundreds feared dead in Zanzibar ferry sinking
Hundreds of ferry passengers are feared drowned following the sinking of a vessel off the coast of Zanzibar. As many as 600 people were on board the boat when it went down earlier, with some 380 still unaccounted for.
Ice hockey team Lokomotiv involved in plane crash
An aircraft carrying Russian ice hockey team Lokomotiv has crashed near the central city of Yaroslavl. As many as 43 people are believed to have been killed in the incident, with the plane reportedly bursting into flames moments after takeoff.

As many as ten people have been killed in New Delhi following a bomb attack on the Indian High Court. A further 61 people are believed to have been injured in what Indian prime minister Manmhan Singh branded a “cowardly act”.

Death onboard Jetstar flight to New Zealand
A man has choked to death on an airline meal on board a Jetstar flight from Singapore to Auckland. Robert Rippingale died while on route to his native New Zealand for a family reunion leaving his distraught girlfriend sitting at his side for the remained of the flight.
