TAP Portugal signs up with Yapital for digital payments

Award-winning airline TAP Portugal and Yapital, Europe´s first cross-channel mobile payment solution, have signed a cooperation to offer mobile payment to TAP´s customers from the third quarter of 2015 onwards.

All ticket purchases are listed straight away in a transaction overview inside the Yapital app.

Carlos Paneiro, TAP vice president commercial, commented: “TAP offers the best possible service whether it is on the ground, in the air or online: on our web platforms our passengers can now book their flights and pay securely with Yapital, all in a few clicks.

“Integrating Yapital underlines the importance of mobile features and allows us to offer our travellers convenient, secure and easy-to-use mobile payment.”

Travellers booking their tickets from the TAP homepages in Germany, Luxembourg and Austria will soon be able to pay by smartphone: by simply scanning a QR code with the PIN-secured Yapital smartphone app and clicking on ‘confirm’.

Neil Scoble, head of international sales at Yapital, added: “Yapital is very pleased to be able to offer our cross-channel payment solution to TAP: a world-class, award-wining airline, known for embracing new technologies to enhance their travellers´ experience.”

He adds that in Luxembourg, where Yapital is headquartered, TAP has a special position, since 16 per cent of the country´s population is of Portuguese descent.

“This cooperation not only strengthens our position locally in Luxembourg - offering Yapital to the many TAP customers travelling to and from Portugal - it also shows that the airline industry in Western Europe is opening up to mobile payment.”
