SIA celebrate launch of its fourth daily service

Singapore Airlines, the world’s most awarded airline, held a customer gate event on Friday 2nd November with customers and guests to celebrate the recent launch of its long-awaited fourth daily service from London Heathrow to Singapore.

The event was attended by Colin Matthews, Chief Executive Officer, Heathrow Airport Holdings Ltd, Mary Macleod, Member of Parliament for Chiswick, Brentford, Isleworth, Osterley & Hounslow, Stephen Quick, Deputy Singapore High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Paul Tan, Regional Vice President Europe, Singapore Airlines and Phee Teik Yeoh, General Manager UK & Ireland Singapore Airlines.

Travellers had the chance to enjoy refreshments including sparkling wine, canapés and cake, while they were also surprised with the opportunity to win prizes on the day as part of a celebratory customer giveaway. There were 10 prizes in total, ranging from a luxury hamper for the 28th person to check-in, to in-flight vouchers to spend on board, replica Boeing 777-300ER aircraft models and a star prize of 28,000 KrisFlyer frequent flyer miles.

Phee Teik Yeoh, General Manager UK & Ireland, Singapore Airlines, said: “Singapore Airlines has wanted to launch a fourth daily flight for the last 14 years and so we are delighted to finally be able to celebrate its long-awaited arrival. The customer benefits provided by having four daily flights from London to Singapore are many. Alongside a wider choice of departure timings, the new flight also opens up additional opportunities to connect onto our vast range of destinations beyond Singapore.”

Stephen Quick, Deputy Singapore High Commissioner to the United Kingdom commented: “Congratulations to Singapore Airlines for the launch of their fourth daily service between London and Singapore. This is a much welcomed development since it clearly demonstrates the strength of bilateral passenger traffic between the UK and Singapore. There is no doubt that mounting an additional service will certainly help augment the already strong and vibrant trade, business and tourist links between our two countries.”

Colin Matthews, CEO, Heathrow Airport Holdings Ltd, added: “London to Singapore is one of the most economically important routes in the world and I am delighted to welcome a fourth daily Singapore Airlines service between our two cities.  Heathrow has long enjoyed a good relationship with Singapore Airlines and I look forward to more exciting developments, not least the airline’s move to Heathrow’s new Terminal 2 after it opens in 2014.”

Also speaking at the event, Mary Macleod, MP for Brentford, Chiswick, Isleworth, Osterley and Hounslow, commented: “I’m delighted that Singapore Airlines has now launched a fourth daily service from London Heathrow as it provides an additional boost to jobs and businesses in the local area. Growth is always something to be welcomed and we value the local commitment and stronger ties that the launch of this new flight provides.”

The new service now means that Singapore Airlines offers four daily flights from London Heathrow to Singapore with a choice of departure times spread throughout the day. This is in addition to daily services from Manchester Airport to Singapore.
