Sabre employees volunteer over 17,000 hours in 32 countries

Sabre employees around the world traded a day in the office to help the homeless, feed the hungry, sustain the environment and champion for children as part of Sabre’s Give Time Together global volunteer week, the single largest employee engagement initiative at Sabre.

The annual event which has been in place since 2006 enabled Sabre employees to collectively and simultaneously participate in more than 300 volunteer events in five continents around the world, ringing up a total of more than 17,800 hours of volunteer time.

“This year’s campaign was our most successful ever,” said Jennifer Barkley, manager of global community involvement at Sabre Holdings.  “Each and every year our employees demonstrate an incredible level of compassion and commitment to their local communities. This year, they truly went above and beyond, collaborating on projects with business partners and colleagues and logging more volunteer hours than ever before. It speaks volumes about our positive culture here at Sabre.”

Some of the most notable Give Time Together volunteer events across the globe included:

Montevideo, Uruguay: More than 450 Sabre employees joined 17 members of the United States Embassy to makeover Villa del Cerro, a school in the city. The efforts impacted 180 children and volunteers renovated 15 classrooms, repainted 12 doors and 40 windows, replaced 100 meters of fence, renovated a playground and planted 20 new trees and bushes and a vegetable garden.

Fort Worth, Texas: More than 350 employees raised money for and worked over a five week period to build a Habitat for Humanity home for the Portillo family of Forth Worth. On June 4, several employees including Sabre’s Chief Information Officer Barry Vandevier awarded the keys to the home and a Bible to the Portillo family during Habitat’s dedication ceremony at Texas Christian University.

Singapore: Sabre employees partnered with Abacus joint venture colleagues in an event to spend time with disadvantaged children from Ang Mo Kio Family services. Employees from both companies collaborated on fun activities throughout the day such as games and races on the beach.

Krakow, Poland: Employees in Poland organized several volunteer events that included helping animals at the An Animal Is Not A Thing Foundation, helping at the Home for the Elderly ul. Helclow, spending time with children at Kindergarden 83,  giving back to the environment at the Borkowski Forest Cleanup, and volunteering at the Caritas Mother and Child Housing Center.

San Francisco, CA: To help with environmental sustainability, Sabre and Travelocity employees in San Francisco installed solar panels at the Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center and helped with gardening and tree planting around the center.
