Accor Adds Key Cities To Its Asian Hotel Network And Sets Up Novotel In Hong Kong

Accor has acquired a minority share in the Hong Kong
based hotel management company, Century International Hotels.
Century International Hotels currently operates 20 hotels and resorts (5,800
rooms) in six countries - Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, China and Hong
Kong SAR, Vietnam and Singapore. All Century hotels are of three or four-star
standard and are located in Asia’s key business and leisure centres.
Brian Deeson founded the Company in 1989. With more than 30 years of
hospitality experience in both marketing and management with international
hotel chains, he established the Century brand as a household name in Asia’s
hotel market.
Century’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Brian Deeson, welcomed the
agreement with Accor: “In today’s hotel sector, regional companies are looking
for international affiliation to give them a competitive advantage. Accor’s
brands, reservation and distribution systems place us in their high-profile
global network, which is an excellent opportunity for Century.”
“We are delighted that the owners of the Century Hong Kong Hotel have agreed
to the co-branding of the hotel to the Novotel Century Hong Kong, which is
planned from November 1, 2001. This will see the hotel become a member of
one of the world’s most renowned hotel networks. We will then talk with the
owners of our other hotels in the region about the possibility of re-flagging
under one of the Accor brands.”
The Century Hong Kong is one of the city`s leading four-star hotels. Located in
the popular commercial district of Wanchai, the 516-room hotel boasts state-of-
the-art business and telecommunications facilities, executive floors, four
restaurants and lounges, meeting rooms and recreation facilities.
Through the management of new hotels in Asia’s key cities, such as Hong
Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Manila, which complement its existing networks in
Indonesia and China, this partnership is essential for Accor and the scope of its
Asian Hotel network.
“The introduction of the Novotel brand in Hong Kong is particularly significant,
as this will be the first Accor hotel in what is one of the world’s most important
business and tourist centres”, said Sven Boinet, Member of the Accor
Management Board.
“This agreement with Century follows a similar joint-venture agreement with
Zenith Hotels International (9 hotels), another prominent group in the region.
Together, the Century and Zenith agreements reflect Accor’s confidence in the
future of the hotel sector in China and in Asia.” Sven Boinet added.
As a result of these two partnerships, Accor and its affiliated networks will
operate 100 hotels (23,000 rooms) in about 15 countries in Asia.
