Northwest Airlines Announces Success Of Award Travel Reservations Booking Product

Northwest Airlines announced today that more than 125,000 individual online customers have used its WorldPerks Award Travel Reservations product to book online. Northwest Airlines in 1998 was the first airline to provide its frequent flyers with the ability to redeem frequent flyer miles online for travel using the Award Travel Reservations product.

Northwest Airlines WorldPerks Frequent Flyer Center, found on Northwest’s award-winning web site www.nwa.com, offers its 17 million WorldPerks members a user-friendly way, in three clicks or less, to check account balances, view award charts and book award travel reservations. Customers can also enroll in the WorldPerks program online if they are not currently a member. In addition, Northwest was the first airline to offer its customers downloadable flight schedules, WorldPerks account information, Weekly CyberSavers Fares and airport maps to Handheld/Palm devices.

“Northwest has given its WorldPerks members the most advanced and user-friendly frequent flyer program online,” said Al Lenza, vice president-distribution planning. “January of 2000 has been reported as the highest month for online Award Travel Reservations ticket transactions at 12,859.”

Northwest’s web site was recently ranked number one for easy navigation and low-hassle ticket bookings by ZDNet and WebCriteria- highest of any airline. The Frequent Flyer Center at nwa.com also received a rating of four and one half out of five from webflyer.com.

Northwest’s WorldPerks frequent flyer program is the highest rated U.S.-based program reviewed by InsideFlyer magazine, the leading authority on airline free travel programs, and in 1999 was named the most preferred frequent flyer program by the readers of Time in Asia. WorldPerks received the special “Industry Impact Award” at InsideFlyer’s 12th Annual Freddie Awards in January 2000.
