The Bahamas To Support City Of Hope & Walk To Cure Breast Cancer

The Islands of The Bahamas have joined forces with The City of Hope to combat breast cancer. The City of Hope`s ongoing efforts to fight breast cancer address different aspects of the disease including research, prevention, early diagnosis, advanced treatment, and last but not least, finding a cure for this awful disease. The Islands of The Bahamas recognize the benefit of supporting this worthy charitable organization, and is proud to be the Grand Prize Sponsor of this year`s events.

Bahamas Tourist Office Representatives, Bahamas Specialists and other Industry Partners will support The City of Hope and participate in the 5K Run/Walk on October 6th 2002 at the Aventura Mall, and again on October 27th 2002 at the Sawgrass Mills to honour the memory of persons in The Bahamas who have battled cancer. This disease affects persons worldwide and has affected everyone in some way, either directly, through a family member, a friend, or even a friend of a friend. About 2000 volunteers will participate in each event.


All registered participants of either one of the 5K Run/Walks will have the opportunity to win one of three Bahamian Vacation getaways inclusive of accommodations, and round trip airfare for two persons. The Islands of The Bahamas offer a wide variety of experiences. One of the lucky winners will be granted the opportunity to fly to Nassau, Bahamas via Continental airlines and enjoy a three day/two night stay at the luxurious Radisson Cable Beach & Golf Resort, located on the famous Cable Beach strip. The Nassau experience is one of sun, sand, and sea, shows, casinos, gourmet restaurants, and nightclubs. But visitors, who search for more nature activities, can swim with dolphins and stingrays, visit sea life parks, go horseback riding or even canoe on a lake.
Another lucky winner will fly to Grand Bahama Island via Continental Airlines and have the pleasure of spending three days and two nights at the deluxe Pelican Bay Suites at Lucaya. Visitors to the Grand Bahama Island can enjoy world-class golf courses, and a vibrant nightlife, or a quiet laid back lifestyle. Major attractions for many visitors are the Part Lucaya Marketplace and the International Bazaar. These shopping areas consist of stores from around the world, offering duty-free shopping. Visitors can enjoy activities, such as diving, deep-sea fishing, and water-sports. The more environmentally conscious visitors can enjoy many nature preservation areas. Finally, the next lucky winner that participates in the City of Hope 5K Run/Walk event will fly to Abaco on Continental Airlines and stay four days and three nights at the Abaco Beach Resort. The Abacos are a mecca for sailing, fishing, snorkeling and diving. Throughout the year, The Abacos have a number of events some of which are centered on the islands excellent fishing. Some of these well-known events include, the North Abaco Fishing Championship, Treasure Cay International Billfish Tournament and The Great Abaco Triathlon.
