Press: UK package holidays in price war

An intense price war is forcing travel companies to offer summer holidays at bargain prices in the U.K., as operators scramble to cash in on the surge of new year bookings, The Times reports Thursday. Companies such as Karstadquelle’s Thomas Cook, TUI Ag’s Thomson and British Airways PLC announced a flurry of low-cost deals Wednesday on traditional package holidays in a move to boost bookings, the paper says.

TUI’s Thomson has announced it will scrap fuel supplements on its holidays - a saving of about GBP30 for each customer - and has urged rivals to follow suit, the paper adds.
