Dubai tourism appoints UK PR agency

The Government of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has appointed The Communication Group plc as its first retained PR consultancy in the UK market.

Dubai is one of the most innovative and visionary cities in the world, and its growth path has been staggering - becoming one of the world’s fastest growing economies in less than 40 years.

Dubai is constantly evolving, from trading outpost, to business hub; holiday destination to an ideal place for second homes; and the public relations campaign will assist in maximising awareness of all that the emirate has to offer tourists and businesses alike.

The campaign will focus on Dubai as a world class commercial destination, with a strong diversified economy, offering excellent investment and commercial opportunities.  It continues to experience unprecedented growth across a wide variety of sectors, including tourism, telecommunication, finance, real estate and construction.  The emirate provides outstanding opportunities for British businesses large and small, and British exports to Dubai in 2005 were up 134% (with a total value of £4.76 billion).  Indeed Dubai is currently the UK’s 10th largest export market globally.

As for tourism, few destinations can offer visitors the range of attractions that Dubai can, from the desert, indoor ski resorts, the world’s best shopping and luxurious hotels to glittering sporting events; and The Communication Group will assist the DTCM in promoting the diversity of its offer, positioning it as a high profile year round tourism destination and with the view of achieving the aim of 15 million international visitors by 2010.

Bärbel Kirchner, director of the UK and Ireland Office of the DTCM comments on the appointment: “Dubai has never had so much to offer as it has today, both in terms of business opportunities and tourism potential.  For this reason we have decided to add to our resources and to appoint an external public relations agency for the first time in ten years. We are delighted to be working with The Communication Group who have extensive public relations experience in this area and feel that they will complement our own in-house team in maximising positive exposure for Dubai and driving business and visitors from this market.”

The Communication Group has a dedicated destination marketing practice, specialising in inward investment, real estate and tourism and has worked with governments and development agencies across the world.
