The Mexican Caribbean Tourism Board reinforces its promotion in Europe in preparation for recovery

European travel agents and tour operators have been invited to participate in a series of virtual events hosted by the Mexican Caribbean Tourism Board. So far two events have taken place in two important markets: UK & Ireland on the 19th November and the French-speaking market on the 17th December 2020, with more events envisaged to cover the other main markets in Europe.

These events have featured training sessions about the eight destinations within the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, a region also known as the Mexican Caribbean: Cancún, Riviera Maya, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Isla Holbox, Puerto Morelos, Sian Ka’an and Gran Costa Maya as well as updates about the new health and safety protocols in place in the region.

The event programmes have also included live question and answer sessions where the participants have had the opportunity to obtain first-hand information and updates from the tourism board’s representatives. During the sessions, Aeromexico and Air France have shared with the audience details about their offer and routes from Europe to the Cancún international airport, as well as on the new health protocols that the two airlines have deployed.

As part of this promotional roadshow, the Mexican Caribbean Tourism Board has invited a dozen hotels and travel suppliers from the region to participate. Each of them has been able to interact with the attendees thanks to an innovative dedicated virtual events platform where each co-exhibitor has had a virtual room featuring videos and marketing literature available to download. Co-exhibitors have also had access to an integrated networking tool allowing them to interact with the participants via chat and video calls to expand their network and to develop new business in this important source market.

In total, around 200 travel agents and tour operators have registered to attend the first two events of the Mexican Caribbean Virtual Roadshow. The content will also be accessible and available “on-demand” for six months after each event.

The events have been organised in association with leading trade publications in each market.

Virtual events have played a very important role to allow the travel trade to strengthen its product knowledge, to keep up with the latest official information, and continue developing a base of suppliers so they are ready for the anticipated and significant surge in travel demand.
