UK visitors drive Mauritius tourism upwards
The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority has today announced an 11 per cent global increase in visitor arrivals for 2016 when compared to the previous year.
The news also signifies two years of double-digit growth with 2015 having out performed expectation.
Notably, cruise tourism has also significantly contributed to the increase in visitor numbers, now accounting for over 28,000 arrivals.
The UK market in particular showed promising growth with a nine per cent increase year on year.
This follows on from three years of double-digit growth and also saw a significant increase during the winter season (May to September) year on year.
This success can be partially attributed to targeting low season with the Mauritius 365 campaign, and the widespread refurbishment of many of the island’s products and services.
