Symposium “Uniting people, create the future”

On 21-24 October this year, Dubai (United Arab Emirates) hosted Symposium “Uniting people, create the future” within the promotion of Dubai candidacy to host the World exhibition in 2020 (hereinafter referred to as EXPO-2020).

About 200 delegates from more than 120 BIE member countries participated in this symposium, including the Kazakhstan delegation.

The main objective of the symposium was to demonstrate the effect of cooperation in the field of innovation and new solutions implementation. Participants learned about the benefits that the Arab side as the host country proposed for EXPO-2020, including stability and security, open and dynamic economic environment, readiness of infrastructure, as well as the broad support of the country population.

This topic covers the volatile and interconnected elements, which drive the global development: smart systems for logistics and transportation, improved access to energy and water, use of new models for the flow of financial and intellectual capital for the development of entrepreneurship and innovations.

Along with Dubai the cities such as Yekaterinburg (Russia), Izmir (Turkey) and Sao Paulo (Brazil) claimed to host Expo 2020. The winner among the candidates will be announced after the vote on 27 November 2013.

Within the symposium a meeting with Dmitry Kerkentzes, the head of the Secretariat of the International Bureau of Exhibitions, took place. At the meeting they discussed the preparation of the registration dossier and the current status of participation of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the exhibition in 2015 in Milan. Recommendations and suggestions were given.

The Kazakhstan delegation held bilateral meetings with the organisers of the Symposium Expo-2020 of Dubai, ambassadors and delegates of the Czech Republic, China, Monaco, Spain, San Marino, Cote d’Ivoire, Congo, Mexico, Angola, Sri Lanka, Brazil and other. The issues of expanding bilateral cooperation were discussed, meetings with the Commissioners General of other countries on the participation in EXPO-2015 in Milan were also held. Discussion of proposals for the participation of these countries at EXPO-2017 in Astana was also among other events.
