Sabre‘s Gloria Guevara named Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism

Sabre Travel Network(R), the world’s leading provider of high-performance solutions for the travel industry, congratulates Gloria Guevara on her appointment to the prestigious role of Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism. Mexican President Felipe Calderon announced the appointment of Ms. Guevara, vice president and general director of Sabre Travel Network Mexico, to the position on March 10 in Mexico City, Mexico.

Ms. Guevara has led Sabre Travel Network’s team in Mexico since 2005. Expansion magazine included Ms. Guevara in its annual list of the Most Powerful Women in Mexico in 2008 and 2009. Her effort to cultivate a rewarding workplace resulted in repeated designations for Sabre as one of the best companies to work for in Mexico, a title given by the Great Place To Work Institute.

Sabre Travel Network Mexico is the leading global distribution service (GDS) in Mexico and Latin America. Working closely with its travel agency and corporate partners, Sabre processes the majority of travel bookings in Mexico.

President Calderon said that Ms. Guevara “has the credentials and expertise needed to promote tourism in Mexico.” She has 15 years of experience in the travel industry, all with Sabre. Ms. Guevara held leadership positions at Sabre headquarters and earlier at Sabre’s Latin America headquarters in Miami. She had successful stints as vice president of global supplier technology solutions for Sabre Holdings, technology director for Sabre Travel Network Latin America and director of customer service and operations for Sabre Mexico.

“Tourism is a vital propeller of economic growth within Mexico, and I’m excited about this opportunity to enhance Mexico’s reputation as a leading destination for business and leisure travel,” said Ms. Guevara. “We are committed to strengthening the planning of tourism activities in every region of Mexico, including environmental preservation, social responsibility and sustainable development criteria in each program.”

We wish Gloria well in her important new role, and pledge to continue doing our part to support travel and tourism in Mexico and around the world.”

Esteban Velasquez will step in as the interim director of Sabre Travel Network Mexico.
