INTERNET CONNECTIONS AT HILTON HOTELS
Hilton Hotels’ network of web-based technology is designed to meet the needs of traveling business professionals in a variety of ways including:

DATAPORT CONNECTIONS - A majority of U.S. Hilton hotels have dataports available in guest rooms for computer Internet connections through regular telephone lines.
HILTON BUSINESS ANYWHERE? CENTERS - Hilton Hotels Corporation and Business Anywhere have teamed up to provide high-quality, unattended business center kiosks at select U.S. Hilton hotels. The 24-hour, automated centers provide a Pentium® computer, Internet access, copying, faxing and computer notebook printing capabilities among other services.
MOBILE-STAR HIGH-SPEED, WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS—MobileStar Network service is expected to provide wireless Internet access to more than 100 participating U.S. Hilton hotels by year-end 2000. The Internet connection is established by simply inserting a special Ethernet LAN PC card into the laptop computer. The card then transmits digital data to access points within the hotel and starts the wireless connection at speeds 10 to 50 times faster than a typical modem.
CAIS HIGH-SPEED INTERNET ACCESS (HARD-WIRED) - By the first quarter of 2000, Hilton Hotels Corporation expects to provide high speed Internet access in its hotels in the United States, Canada and Mexico through an agreement with Washington-based CAIS Internet. Through data over-voice technology called OverVoice, guests can log on to a high-speed, ethernet Internet connection and talk on the phone at the same time. The new technology will revolutionize how people communicate and multi-task during their hotel stays. Nominal guest room charges for OverVoice Internet access are expected to be less than $10 per day.

For guests who want to avoid the hassle of traveling with laptop computers, Hilton brings people closer together with the latest cutting-edge technology offerings including:
ESSENTIAL GUEST SERVICES NETWORK (EGSN)—Hilton Hotels Corporation and Unisys Corporation have combined forces to pilot the Essential Guest Services Network (EGSN): an interactive online service, information, and entertainment system connected directly to individual hotel rooms. The first service of its kind in the hospitality industry, the solution now is being pilot tested in selected guest rooms at the Hilton Anaheim, Anaheim, California.
By using a high-speed dedicated server, EGSN makes a wide range of services available from a single, touch-screen interface on a desk in the hotel guest room. Traditionally, hotel guests use a variety of ways to access information while traveling - including information on hotel features and business services as well as local dining, recreational and entertainment activities.

This new solution will eliminate the need for much of the hotel collateral material as well as telephone calls to hotel concierge staff and to local attractions. It also provides access to popular office productivity software and the guest’s own electronic mail, liberating travelers from the need to carry laptop computers.

ON COMMAND/WEB TV—Available in select U.S. Hilton hotels, guests simply press a button on their remote control device to launch On Command’s WebTV Network online service through the hotel’s in-room television system. Guests may use the infrared wireless keyboard supplied by On Command to surf the Web and check e-mail. The customized version of the service offered by On Command uses an Ethernet connection rather than a modem. A high-speed T1 line carries data up to 50 times faster than most laptop computers with 28800 bps internal modems—making Internet access through the On Command system even speedier for hotel guests.
HILTON TELESUITE NETWORK®—The uniquely-designed Hilton TeleSuite Network, developed in conjunction with TeleSuite Corporation and IBM, enables guests to conduct meetings or celebrate special occasions in fully synchronized audio and video, achieving virtual “person-to-person” contact, even though they are in completely separate cities. All participants appear life size across a table from one another, making it seem as if they are all in the same room, feasible through the use of a unique, patented “video mirror” concept. The digital image streams are compressed and transmitted in real time over a dedicated T1 Internet line to the remote location, where they are projected onto the screen, side by side, giving the impression that the two sets of participants are sitting at opposite ends of the same table. Currently, the Hilton TeleSuite Network is installed in Hilton Atlanta & Towers, Hilton Beverly Hills, The Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C., The Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, Ill., Hilton San Francisco & Towers and The Waldorf=Astoria in New York.

As millions of people around the world embrace the Internet as a way to make travel arrangements and conduct business, Hilton continues to harness the power of web-based technology every day to build a base as the hospitality industry’s technology leader.
