United Welcomes US Airways Into Star Alliance

United Airlines today welcomed US Airways as it officially became a full member of
Star Alliance, the first truly global airline alliance to offer customers
global reach and a smooth travel experience. Graham Atkinson, senior vice president - Worldwide Sales and Alliances of
United Airlines, US Airways’ application sponsor to join Star Alliance in
May 2003, congratulated US Airways on the occasion. “As the world’s
leading airline alliance, Star Alliance seeks member airlines that possess
the highest operational and customer-service standards,” said Atkinson,
who also serves as chairman of the Star Alliance Management Board. “The
membership requirements are extremely stringent, and I applaud US Airways
on the successful completion of those quality-driven provisions.”

Atkinson noted that Star Alliance customers throughout the world will
benefit greatly with the addition of US Airways and its extensive network
along the eastern U.S. seaboard, as well as its complementary hubs in
Charlotte, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

“Collectively, United, Air Canada and US Airways will provide Star
Alliance customers the best North American coverage of any airline
alliance,” he said. “United’s code-share relationship with the US Airways
began in 2003, and we’re pleased they have joined us in Star Alliance, as
well.”
