The Lake Geneva Region has welcomed the opening of the new spa at The Royal Savoy Lausanne. After an investment of 100 million Swiss Francs and a five-year complete renovation and expansion, the transformation of this iconic hotel is now complete. The 1500sqm Le Spa du Royal which opened this June is the latest addition to the hotel.

Qatar Airways has announced a substantial aircraft upgrade on the Doha to Geneva route from July 1st 2016, to become the airline’s second Dreamliner route to Switzerland after Zürich. The route, which is currently operated by an Airbus A320 with 132 seats, will be served by the state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner, almost doubling capacity on the direct daily service to 254 seats.

The legendary Kulm Hotel St. Moritz has announced that British architect Lord Norman Foster is to oversee a £5.4 million refurbishment and extension of the Ice Pavillon in the Kulm Park. The Pavillon stands between the main hotel building and Chesa al Parc (one of the Kulm’s restaurants and the clubhouse for Kulm Golf St. Moritz); in front of it is the hotel’s outdoor ice rink (in winter) and tennis courts (in summer).

In the face of stiff competition from cities such as Paris, London, Rome, Istanbul, Madrid, Lisbon, Venice and Dublin, as well as new nominees Porto and Lodz, Geneva becomes part of the new trend of “city break” trips, i.e. short weekend breaks.
SkyWork Airlines has launched flights from London City Airport to the Swiss cities Basel and Bern. Flights are operated by a twin-engine turboprop Saab 2000 aircraft, departing at 07:20 between Monday and Friday with a Sunday service departing at 17:20. A weekday evening route departing at 18:10 will also come into service from Tuesday September 1st.
