IAG places Airbus order to modernise long-haul fleet
International Airlines Group has confirmed it is ordering Airbus A350 aircraft for the group’s long-haul fleet. For British Airways, there are 18 A350-1000 firm orders, plus 18 options. These are in addition to 18 Boeing 787 options which IAG announced previously that it plans to convert into firm orders.
WTTC 2013: Walsh renews criticism of UK government
International Airlines Group chief executive Willie Walsh has emphasised the need for the UK government to support the aviation sector in the country. Speaking at the World Travel & Tourism Council Global Summit in Abu Dhabi, Walsh said IAG was not seeking financial support, but merely for the government to “get out of the way”.
IAG moves closer to Vueling acquisition
The National Securities Market Commission in Spain has given the green light to a revised offer from International Airlines Group for low-cost carrier Vueling. The body had approved a bid at €9.25 per share.
Amadeus signs content agreement with IAG
Amadeus has signed a new long-term content agreement with International Airlines Group, one of the world’s largest airline groups. The agreement, which covers British Airways, Iberia, and Iberia Express, allows Amadeus subscribers to continue to benefit from accessing the same level of fares, availability and functionality as previously.
Change of leadership as Iberia battles for profitability
International Airlines Group and Rafael Sánchez-Lozano have decided by mutual agreement that he will step down as chief executive of Iberia and from the IAG board with immediate effect. He will be replaced by Luis Gallego who is currently chief executive of Iberia’s subsidiary Iberia Express.
Iberia drags International Airlines Group into red
International Airlines Group has reported an operating loss of €23 million before exceptional items for the year to December 31st. While British Airways made an operating profit of €347 million during the period, the group was hamstrung by Spanish carrier Iberia, which made an operating loss of €351 million.
British Airways cosies up to American Express
Avios and British Airways Executive Club Members who have not previously earned Avios with American Express Currency Exchange will receive a bonus 1,000 Avios when purchasing £300 or more of foreign currency from American Express. This offer is available until March 31st 2013.
IAG fails to reach Iberia unions deal
International Airlines Group has confirmed no agreement has been reached between Iberia and its trade unions after the airline outlined transformation plans in November last year. Iberia will, therefore, press ahead with the previously announced capacity reduction of 15 per cent for 2013, IAG said in a statement earlier.
UBS update boosts IAG
Shares in International Airlines Group have surged this morning after UBS upgraded stock from ‘neutral’ to ‘buy’. UBS issued the statement on hopes of a successful resolution to IAG plans to restructure loss-making carrier Iberia.
IAG makes bid for remaining Vueling shares
International Airlines Group has confirmed it will make an offer to purchase the remaining shares in Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling. IAG presently controls 46 per cent of the carrier through its subsidiary Iberia.
Radical overhaul of operations at Iberia sees 4,500 jobs go
International Airlines Group has outlined what it describes as a “comprehensive plan” to restructure troubled carrier Iberia. The Spanish flag-carrier will see 4,500 jobs go, with routes and aircraft also to be cut.
bmi Regional appoints M&C Saatchi
Aberdeen-based bmi Regional has appointed M&C Saatchi to lead its first marketing campaign since it became an independent company earlier this year. The new advertising campaign is expected to launch later this month with a new website to follow in October.
