Site59 Reveals That ‘Travellers Making Plans Later Now’

Site59 reports more people are buying travel closer to the time of departure.

Site59`s industry data shows that 20% of purchases are being made one day before departure, 55% buy 3 days before departure and 80% within 7 days based on sales of its last minute packages sold through Travelocity, Orbitz, Yahoo!Travel, American Express, American Airlines Vacations, LowestFare.com, BestFares.com, Site59.com, travel agents and a variety of other distribution partners and affiliates.


According to a PhocusWright survey this month, 21 million Americans “usually” buy their travel online, up 75% from 2000, and nearly 27 million Americans have now bought travel online at least once, up from 21 million last year, representing 13% of the American population.


For the week of November 2nd, Dallas was the most popular domestic destination and Puerto Rico the most popular international destination, with New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, London and Cancun in close contention for that time period. For the week prior, San Francisco, London and Dallas were in the top three. Site59`s worldwide network of supplier partners is growing and includes recently signed Hyatt Hotels, SRS-World Hotels, Indecorp, and Carlson brands, as well as more than 2100 other partners.
