W Retreat & Spa - Maldives appoints new general manager
W Retreat & Spa - Maldives has announced the appointment of its new general manager, Mark O’Sullivan. A native of Ireland, O’Sullivan brings to the retreat over 17 years of experience providing strategic and inspirational leadership. Prior to joining Starwood, he also served with Hyatt, InterContinental, The Kensington Hotel and most recently served as the general manager at Vana Belle, A Luxury Collection Resort in Thailand.
Italian glitterati welcome Excelsior Hotel Gallia to Milan
The leading lights of Milan’s high-society were out in force earlier for the grand opening of the Excelsior Hotel Gallia. Owned by Qatar-based Katara Hospitality – considered the World’s Leading Hotel Company by World Travel Awards – the property is the latest addition to The Luxury Collection from Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
Starwood debuts luxury collection in Japan
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide have opened Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto. Owned by Mori Trust, Suiran marks the first Luxury Collection hotel in Japan, offering the brand’s signature Luxury Collection Concierge service and indigenous experiences in Kyoto - a cultural and spiritual nexus for countless Japanese traditions.
Starwood expands presence in Indonesia
Starwood Hotels & Resorts has signed the Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Kuta with PT Umah Benesari. The new-build hotel, scheduled to open in May 2015, will join the group’s existing six existing properties in the destination. In the next four years, Starwood will continue to ramp up its growth in Indonesia, with plans to open 12 additional hotels across the country.
Starwood accelerates growth in North America
Starwood Hotels & Resorts expects another year of accelerated growth in North America, where it will surpass the 600th hotel milestone in the next two months. The company’s growth is being driven by the rapid expansion of its Specialty Select Brands, the continued growth of its Upper Upscale brands and increased demand for luxury hotel offerings.
Starwood to bring Luxury Collection to Kyoto, Japan
Mori Trust Group and Starwood Hotels & Resorts have announced their agreement to open the Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto in the Arashiyama region of Kyoto in spring of 2015. Suiran will be the first hotel of Starwood’s ‘The Luxury Collection’ to be built in Japan, and this collaboration marks Mori Trust Group’s second with Starwood Hotels and Resorts after Westin Hotel Sendai.
Starwood set to enter Yunnan Province with new hotel
Starwood Hotels & Resorts is opening the Sheraton Xishuangbanna Hotel, marking Starwood’s entry in Yunnan Province, and the first internationally-branded hotel with on-site hot springs in the Prefecture of Xishuangbanna. Xishuangbanna, located at the extreme southern tip of Yunnan Provincel, comprises 326 guest rooms and suites, all equipped with a balcony with expansive views of the tropical rainforest landscape.
New Sheraton hotel planned for Croatia
Starwood Hotels & Resorts is planning to open a new Sheraton hotel in Dubrovnik. Scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2015, Sheraton Dubrovnik Riviera Hotel will mark Starwood’s entry into Dubrovnik and the company’s fourth hotel in Croatia.
Starwood Hotels links with Emirates for loyalty programme
Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Emirates Airline are announcing a new partnership providing reciprocal benefits to Starwood Preferred Guests and Emirates Skywards members. The programme, Your World Rewards, begins on November 19th and allows SPG and Skywards elite members who register for the programme, to elevate their earnings and benefits when they fly with Emirates or stay with SPG Participating Hotels.
W Hotels continues expansion in China
The stylish new 349-room W Beijing - Chang’an has opened its doors. This is the latest addition to Starwood’s growing portfolio of nearly 140 operating hotels in Greater China, with a strong pipeline of more than 130 hotels to come.
Aloft Liverpool opens its doors
Starwood’s Aloft brand is set to open its second hotel in the UK following an £18 million investment which has transformed a neglected building into a sleek new hotel. Set in the 110-year old Royal Insurance Building, Aloft Liverpool will feature 116 loft-like guest rooms and Aloft Hotel’s signature W XYZ bar.
Le Méridien continues growth in India
Starwood Hotels & Resorts has confirmed the signing of Le Méridien Ahmedabad, a 200-room new build hotel slated to open in 2018. In addition to well-appointed, oversized rooms, signature amenities and personalized services, the hotel will also offer four restaurant and bar venues, including a signature all-day dining outlet and two specialty restaurants. Recreation facilities include a swimming pool and fully equipped fitness center.
