ScotRail: Start your summer with Club 55

ScotRail is celebrating the start of summer by bringing back its most popular ticket offer – Club 55.  The offer returned on 14 May, with prices held for the third time in a row.

Customers aged 55 and over can travel anywhere in Scotland – plus Berwick-upon-Tweed and Carlisle – for £19 return.

For an extra treat, customers can upgrade to First Class for just £26 return on selected routes with Club 55 Premier.

The train operator has continued its partnership with Hotel Connexions to give Club 55 customers the chance to create the perfect pre-summer break with up to 60% off selected hotels.

Sean Duffy, ScotRail’s commercial director, said: “Club 55 is ideal for customers looking to save themselves money by opting for a ‘staycation’.”

He added: “Summer is the perfect time to see Scotland’s spectacular scenery, and by taking the train, customers can sit back, relax and take it all in.”

Sandra White MSP, convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s cross-party group on older people, age and ageing, has also welcomed the return of Club 55.

She said: “This is an excellent promotion and provides value for money, which is particularly welcome at a time when the cost of living is going up.  It is a great incentive for people over the age of 55 to get out and about by train.”

Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland said: “Over the last few years, staycations have turned from a trend into a firm habit, with more Scots than ever choosing to holiday here at home.

“We hope that imaginative offers like Club 55 from ScotRail – a partner in our ‘Surprise Yourself’ campaign – will encourage even more people to discover our wonderful country.”

Club 55 customers can start their journeys early, provided they do not arrive into Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Dundee before 09.30 on weekdays.  This gives them plenty of time to enjoy a host of spectacular, scenic journeys.  Some evening conditions also apply.

The offer runs until 30 June 2012 for outward travel – with return travel valid for one month from the date of the outward journey.

Senior Railcard holders and Disabled Persons Railcard holders over 55 get the additional bonus of a further £2 discount on both fares.
