EXPLORE WORLDWIDE URGES TRAVELLERS TO VISIT POMPEII AHEAD OF EXPECTED SURGE

With the premiere of Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston set to captivate audiences worldwide from 23 July on Disney+ and National Geographic, adventure travel specialist, Explore Worldwide is encouraging travellers to experience one of the world’s most extraordinary archaeological sites before interest, and visitor numbers, are expected to rise further.
Hosted by Tom Hiddleston – known for playing the Marvel character Loki and his role in The Night Manager – the three-part documentary shines a new light on the final hours of Pompeii, revealing the deeply human stories behind one of history’s most famous natural disasters.

For Explore Worldwide, the new mini-series is expected to inspire a new wave of cultural travellers eager to witness the remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site for themselves.
Ali Butler, Europe Product Manager at Explore Worldwide and long-time Pompeii expert, said: “Pompeii is one of those incredibly rare places where history doesn’t just feel preserved, it feels alive. Walking through its streets is like stepping into a perfectly frozen moment in time.
“Whenever a major television series shines a spotlight on an iconic destination, we typically see increased interest from travellers. Pompeii has long been one of Italy’s must-visit landmarks, but this series is likely to inspire many more people to add it to their travel wish list.
Ali believes the new series will also introduce Pompeii to a new generation of culturally attuned travellers.

“With Tom appealing to a much younger audience, we anticipate strong interest from families as well. Pompei really leans into the power of the imagination, and it is a wonderful experience for children to see history in this way. Visiting sooner means enjoying the site before demand increases further, allowing more space and time to appreciate the extraordinary scale and atmosphere Pompeii has to offer.”
“Tom also has this amazing ability to bring the story of Pompei to life, and this series is sure to spark the imagination of millions of viewers. It moves beyond the disaster itself and reminds us that Pompeii was once home to real people with families, businesses and everyday routines. I have no doubt audiences will be inspired to see it for themselves first-hand.”
“From intricately decorated villas and bustling marketplaces to colourful bakeries, bathhouses and theatres, the city offers an astonishing insight into everyday Roman life nearly 2,000 years ago. It’s remarkably well-preserved buildings allow visitors to appreciate not only the beauty of Roman design but also the ingenuity and functionality of a thriving ancient city.
“What makes Pompeii particularly unique is that it sits exactly where history happened so long ago, under the imposing silhouette of Mount Vesuvius, which continues to dominate the skyline to this day. Standing beneath the volcano is both haunting and awe-inspiring, prompting visitors to reflect on how an entire community continued to build such a sophisticated and vibrant city while living in the shadow of one of Europe’s most notorious volcanoes.”

With the documentary expected to propel awareness of the ancient city, Explore is advising travellers to consider booking sooner rather than later.
Explore currently features Pompeii in a range of small-group adventures through southern Italy, giving travellers the opportunity to explore the ancient city with expert local guides while discovering the wider cultural and natural highlights of the region, including Naples, the Amalfi Coast and the Bay of Naples.
