Lufthansa invests in the next generation

Flight attendant, chef, technician, commercial employee - these are just some of the job opportunities advertised on the Be-Lufthansa.com portal under the heading “Apprenticeship”. The photo of young people in their typical uniforms and workwear reflects the wide range of career opportunities in the Lufthansa Group for which job seekers can apply online. “Hardly any other DAX-listed company can match up to that,” says Frank Schmith, Head of Personnel Marketing.

While many people most readily associate the job of pilot or flight attendant with Lufthansa, the companies in the Lufthansa Group offer a much wider range of career options - currently about 30 apprenticeship and traineeships and 16 degree courses. The online platform is the key to a successful application. Information for job seekers is also available via Facebook, Twitter and Lufthansa’s own blog.

Linking the Be-Lufthansa.com website with social media channels has already proved fruitful. With 2.5 million visitors in 2012, the Lufthansa Group had one of the best-performing employer websites. “Innovative IT-based solutions offer great opportunities, also in personnel marketing. We receive more than 100,000 job applications a year - more than we could possibly process manually,” says Schmith. But despite the available technology, Lufthansa places special emphasis on personal contact with interested job seekers. The Be-Lufthansa team is therefore represented at trade fairs and also hosts information days for interested applicants.
