Indian railway revenue earnings up 26.81 percent during 1st–10th January 2013

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period from 1st to 10th January 2013 were Rs. 3466.70 crore compared to Rs. 2733.76 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 26.81 per cent.

The total goods earnings were Rs. 2485.24 crore during the period from 1st to 10th January 2013 compared to Rs. 1885.24 crore during 1st to 10th January 2012, showing an increase of 31.83 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 1st to 10th January 2013 were Rs. 865.95 crore compared to Rs. 737.02 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 17.49 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 82.55 crore during this period compared to Rs. 76.81 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 7.47 per cent.

The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during the period 1st to 10th January 2013 were 249.78 million compared to 232.17 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 7.58 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during 1st to 10th January, 2013 were 147.61 million and 102.17 million compared to 134.05 million and 98.12 million during the same period last year, registering a decrease of 10.12 per cent and an increase of 4.13 per cent respectively.
