InterContinental expands Holiday Inn Express brand in Central America
InterContinental Hotels Group announced the signing of two new Holiday Inn Express hotels in Managua, Nicaragua and Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Both properties are slated to open in 2014.
Managed by Latin American Hospitality Management, a subsidiary of Grupo AGRISAL, the hotels will be franchised by an affiliate of IHG.
“Managua and Tegucigalpa are excellent examples of emerging cities that support the growth of the Holiday Inn brand family in the region,” said Joel Eisemann, chief development officer, IHG, the Americas.
“Both cities are generating great demand for internationally branded hotels, and we are excited to expand the Holiday Inn Express brand in these markets.”
Together, the two Holiday Inn Express hotels will add 220 rooms to IHG’s existing Holiday Inn brand family in the Latin America and the Caribbean region, which currently includes 18 Holiday Inn Express hotels and 24 Holiday Inn hotels.
Current IHG-branded hotels represented in Nicaragua include the Real InterContinental Hotel Metrocentro Managua, Crowne Plaza Hotel Managua and Holiday Inn Hotel Managua.
In Honduras, the IHG branded hotels portfolio includes the Real InterContinental Hotel Tegucigalpa, the Real InterContinental Hotel San Pedro Sula, the Crowne Plaza Hotel San Pedro Sula and the Holiday Inn Express Hotel San Pedro Sula.
“Bringing more hotel rooms to these vibrant cities will promote tourism, business and corporate growth,” said Alvaro Diago, chief operating officer, Latin America and Caribbean at IHG.
“IHG is very pleased to be part of these fast growing cities’ developments alongside such a significant partner like Grupo Agrisal, and to work together to increase IHG’s longevity in the region.”
Boasting a modern design, the 110-room Holiday Inn Express Hotel Managua will be situated in an upscale district of Nicaragua’s capital - close to shops, corporate buildings and restaurants.
This seven-story new build will also feature a fitness centre, outdoor swimming pool and private parking area.
Sharing similar characteristics, the 110-room, seven-story Holiday Inn Express Hotel Tegucigalpa will be located in one of the Honduran capital city’s most prestigious neighbourhoods – just a few blocks away from the Presidential Palace.
The hotel is also near various headquarters for national and multinational corporations, shopping centres and government entities.
These agreements also mark the first properties to be built in Nicaragua and Honduras with Grupo AGRISAL, bringing a total of six properties developed in Central America.
Additional properties owned by this partner include the Crowne Plaza Hotel San Salvador, Holiday Inn Hotel San Salvador, Holiday Inn Hotel San José Escazú and the Holiday Inn Express Hotel Panama City- Financial District slated to open later this year.
